Letter from the president

It gives me great pleasure to write the introduction for the first newsletter of our International Association which has been active for more than 55 years. Since I took on the role of Chairman in Lima in May 2010, the financial and social outlook has changed substantially, and the much talked about financial crisis has brought with it significant changes. Our institutions have not gone unaffected by all these changes and, therefore, we believe that our Association should become a privileged forum for the exchange of better practices, opinions and ideas, while continuing to keep in mind our social duty of promoting financial inclusion in our communities.

In this first newsletter, we will cover two important events for our Association: the General Assembly held in Vienna in May last year, hosted by Dorotheum, a very active and dynamic member of our Association; and, the Standing Committee meeting held in Mexico City, this time hosted by another emblematic member of our institution, Nacional Monte de Piedad. I would like to send my thanks to both Dorotheum and Nacional Monte de Piedad for the hospitality they provided to the guests who attended these events.

As well as the two items mentioned above, the first issue of our newsletter also includes two news articles about our partners of a public nature: the General Directorate of Collateral Loans of Chile and the Crédit Municipal de Paris. These articles show how relevant and important our institutions are for the promotion of social inclusion in many different geographical areas.

I could not end this introductory letter without asking all of you for your help in making this newsletter, the first issue of which will be published today and subsequently as a quarterly edition, an interesting and enriching read for our potential readers, giving them the chance to learn about the social and financial activity of the institutions which make up our Association.

Antonio Pulido Gutiérrez.
Chairman of the International Association and Chairman of Cajasol.
